Winter Hand Care

It’s that time of year when our hands start to become dry, flaky or even crack due to the colder weather. Maybe you also have some spots on your hand from summer sun damage, or feel that your hands are looking older than you are. Here are 5 tips to keep your hands in great shape this winter!

EXFOLIATE

Just like we exfoliate the body, exfoliating our hands is important too! Sometimes dry hands can be in part from dead skin build up. Think, if you applied lotion to your body while wearing clothes, not much would make it to your skin! Exfoliating allows your products to penetrate better, softens the skin, increases cell turnover and gives them a radiance! Our scrubs are an easy way to exfoliate. You can exfoliate your face, and then scrub the remainder on your hands too.

Professional treatment:

If you see an Esthetician, or are an Esthetician a great hand treatment while masking is our 20% Zesty Orange Peel or 20% Phyto Pumpkin Peel for a couple minutes to not only exfoliate but lighten discolorations. Then remove with a hot towel and massage with our Cranberry Body Lotion! I love to mix it with our Grapeseed Oil for more slip.

HYDRATE

Keeping our hands hydrated is important during the fall and winter months. Because of the low humidity levels, the air wants to steal the moisture in your skin! When you apply your morning facial moisturizer add some to your hands, another time at lunch, and later on in the day. If you wash your hands a lot, applying after each wash is great too. Make sure you’re using a natural and non-drying soap whenever possible.

PROTECT

Whenever it is below 50 degrees I recommend wearing gloves, and good ones! Even just a minute or two outside everyday over the winter often causes dryness, redness and even cracking on the hands. I have had many clients get good gloves and become religious about using them all the time and their dry hands miraculously disappear! Do the same for your neck by wearing a scarf, and when possible your face as well. If you are going to be outside for long periods of time consider applying a layer of Restoraderm Crème to protect from dehydration and any windburn.

If you choose to not wear gloves while driving whether it’s summer or winter keep some SPF in your purse and apply before driving, even if it’s for a few minutes! This is the best anti-aging treatment you can do on a daily basis, as well and protect from future discolorations.

REPAIR

Nightly serums and moisturizers are a great way to correct damage and repair. Depending on your concern, here are a few options.

  • Dryness: Hydrotant Gel or Hydro-Lane under your hand crème.
  • Discolorations: Chiral A Discoloration Solution or Discoloration Solution with Brightening Lotion or Zesty Orange Moisturizer.
  • Anti-Aging: Repair Serum, Rejuvenation Serum, Firm & Lift or NATOX under Rejuvenation Crème.
  • Exfoliate and hydrate in one: 5% or 10% Glycolic Crème.

You can also use our retinols on your hands. Erase A Line or Retinoxyl Elixir!

Try to apply your serums and moisturizers as close as possible to when you are going to be so that the ingredients can sink in through the night!

If it’s comfortable for you, consider also wearing cotton gloves to sleep a few nights a week to keep the products on your hands, and not your sheets.

Our hands and neck show our age first over the years. Take care of them!
